Multimedia In The Twenty-first Century Should Not Look Like Something From the Nineteenth Century!

Look around and you'll see people still using multimedia techniques on the Internet that went out in 1929. And the reason why is probably the same as those used by other silent movie actors who never made a "talkie" and never acted after those new movies became the rage.

Of course, I'm talking about Video (or movies) with...

AUDIO!

Too many multimedia producers on the Internet are still using simple text boxes to explain how to use software, navigate a website, or how to send email. Is that really necessary?

Some excuses I've heard are that the producer's voice is not good enough, or the file sizes of the multimediawith text boxes are smaller, or it's easier. I've heard recordings of some really difficult to understand people before... I can remember a teacher in college that it took me several months to understand. And no, I didn't ask for my money back. Do the best audio's that you can and speak slowly if it's difficult for others to understand you.

As for creating texted based multimedia, they are not simpler to create. It takes about four to five times as long to create the text captions as compared to combining audio and video. I know because when I first started making multimedia tutorials I used one of the screen capture software programs that made it easy to add text captions. And I used it to make quite a few tutorials. Until I finally changed over to Camtasia and found that adding audio with the video, while it did make the file sizes larger, was much easier than trying to add text captions after making the video. I've never gone back to text captions again unless it's to enhance my audio.

I want to emphasize that the best type of multimedia is video with audio. And yes, today lots of people are still creating silent videos for the Internet. The only communication they give the customer is through text captions.

But Silent Movies Went Out In 1929!

This takes us back to the days of the silent movies and these silent Internet videos are just as effective

Well, not really as effective as those silent movies.

Because even in the silent movie days the theaters had a piano player who contributed audio to the movies. And the music helped set the mood for what was going on in the movie.

So unless you want to supply a piano player with your silent videos I suggest you add sound to your multimedia.

By the way, in my research on the subject I found that everyone I talk to said they want audio with their videos. And in an online study that I did about a year ago I found that 82.4 percent wanted multimedia WITH Sound! Only 17.6 percent liked those caption boxes.

That's one reason I recommend using Camtasia along with a microphone so that you can record both video and audio. And I also recommend doing both at the same time. I've found that trying to record the video and then go back to re-record the audio is almost impossible. I either have too much video or not enough for my audio.

Plus doing each separately takes more time.

So for your multimedia productions make your audio and videos together and save time. And they will be better.

Do you know anything about this person/business? If not then check them out.Check if they have negative feedback , just like on Ebay ,anyone can set up a website to either sell products that are just scams , but on the other hand , someone can set up a website that links into your selling webpage and run you down and fore warn potential buyers that your product is not worth the selling price or even worse they can run your name down over the whole internet!So anyone selling online really needs to be promoting an ethical and real helpful product or they will lose money period!!

I was going to write my own article stressing just how important it is to Backup your data when I saw this great article from Jim Edwards and I decided to re print his sage advice here for all of you out there who are not backing up their data !!!

When Disaster Strikes Your Data

What will you do when your computer crashes and you lose
every single one of your most important files?

"Physician heal thyself!" - a well-worn phrase that simply
means before you give advice to others make sure your own
house is in order.
Well, sadly, that's not 100% the case here.

I'm writing this article as much to remind myself as to
remind you that backing up your computer files represents
one of the most important parts of responsible computing.

Backing up your computer used to be really difficult. I
still don't understand what Microsoft was trying to do with
it's backup utility in the pre-Windows 95 days.

But, with the advent of easier-to-use software and the
proliferation of CD burners, nobody has any excuse for not
keeping their important files safe.

Program vs. Data Files

It's important to understand the difference between program
files and data files because this will make the difference
between your backups taking a few minutes or, quite
unnecessarily, a few hours.

Program files are the immense files that make programs like
"Quicken," "Windows," and "Excel" work on your computer.

Those files are all available on the installation disks
that came with your computer and, unless you have a
specific reason, there is usually no need to back up those
program files.

The files you do want to back up are the ones that contain
your data, including: your word processing documents;
spreadsheets; html website files; databases of names and
addresses.

A data file is basically anything you create or a program
creates that cannot be replaced by re-installing the
program itself.

Those are the files you must back up on a regular basis.

Mirroring Your Hard Drive

"Mirroring" your hard drive is a technique whereby you
create an exact copy or your hard drive, including program
files.

This technique has become popular as hard drives have
gotten relatively huge compared to just a few years ago.

With special software it is possible to create an exact
copy of your hard drive, either on the same hard drive, a
second hard drive, or on a CD-ROM.

If something goes wrong you can simply go back to a time
before the problem started and restore your computer to its
previous state.

The technique works great when dealing with viruses or data
loss.

Saving Files on CD-ROM

This represents the fastest and easiest way to back up your
data files without special software and without having to
sit at your computer inserting 20 floppy disks one right
after the other.

To back up to CD-ROM all you need is a CD burner in your
computer and a blank CD.

On a regular basis you should simply copy your data files
onto a CD-ROM and then store it in a safe place.

I personally keep an updated CD in my safety deposit box at
the bank so I could reactivate all of my businesses
quickly.

Make sure you have a copy of your entire website and all
necessary files and scripts to run it safely stored on a
CD-ROM so you could instantly transfer your business from
one web host to another.

Some online business owners learned this lesson the hard
way during a recent natural disaster when their web servers
got wiped off the face of the earth.

We all need mentors!

Corey Rudl was one of my first mentors and I found him on the internet by searching for an Internet Marketing Expert! I found Corey's page right near the top of the search engines , so I decided to check out his page!

I was quickly attracted to his style of writing and his bluntness, and I could find no-one who had a bad word to say about him online! So I thought "what the heck, I'll sign up for his free newsletter!"

Then as regular as clockwork I received his Marketing Tips newsletter giving me my first taste of Internet Marketing! I soon became addicted!

I couldn't wait to hear the tips and insight he was giving me!Corey was a successful internet entrepreneur before trying to sell information on "how to be a successful internet marketer!".

When talking to people about my web business, many people wonder if it is an ethical business, or maybe a scam to get people to part with their hard earned cash! If I thought this business was a scam and just a method to extract money from them , there is now way I would be promoting my whole business plan under the name www.Steve-Cotterell.com which is my real name!

There is also no way I would publish a photo of myself on the same website , along with contact details such as my mailing address!

I fully believe that a web business , where you give your opinions and recommendations to people on services and products they are interested in is a valid business model, which is both in demand and ethical!To back up this belief I have spent much of my own time and money , buying products , writing articles , and designing websites and after spending what now seems like countless hours reading and researching the material that I write about on my website, newsletter, articles and blog!

There are of course people that have gone before me in this business that I have tried and tested ,and thats why I can wholeheartedly recommend the products that my mentors are promoting!These people have already walked the path that I and others like me are wanting to follow.

If you can clearly define the feeling of adventure , rather than how much work is involved, I am sure you will enjoy your "work" much more as wellas inspiring your customers along the way!

For me each time I write an article and publish it on the web it feels like I am taking , huge steps on a great adventure, and you never know where it will lead to , or what doors this may open for you in life!
